So, you’ve started a new business or have a new product in your range – exciting! Whether you have a firm idea of the labelling you need or if you need to start from scratch, there are several things you need to think about. We’ve discussed the basics below, but if you have any questions or need help, we’re happy to talk, just get in touch with our team. We can work with you from design to production.
OK, so what should I consider for my labels?
Who is my target market? Male or female? What age? Urban or rural? What interests do they have? This will affect the design of your label. Checking competitors on line will give you some idea of the look and feel of the label you want, as well as identifying any niches that aren’t currently filled. If you are selling through retail outlets you may need a barcode on the label.
What are the main features and benefits of my product? Why would people buy my product and not another? Make sure your labels showcase your unique qualities to give people a reason to buy.
What is the selling price of the product? Is my product a commodity item that only needs a basic label or am I aiming for the luxury end of the market and need to spend more to get a premium look.
What physical requirements do I need to consider? How big should the label be? Discreet or do you want to make an impact? Am I using the label as part of the packing, for instance to seal the product? Is the label big enough to have all necessary text legible? How durable does the label need to be – does it have to cope with oil or water, or be exposed to extreme temperatures? How is my label going to be applied – by hand or by machine?
What legal requirements does my label need to meet? Food and cosmetic labels have specific legal requirements, such as ingredient lists. Ask us about these, or check out our other blogs for more information.
